Bananas

I've recently discover the importance of bananas. Incredible fruit, but not only that, they are 65% similar to our human bodies......thats crazy and cool at the same time!!! We are very similar to many things but im particularly fond of bananas, so when i found out they were so close to us, well i was quite excited.

Here is a whole bunch of info for your enjoyment from http://www.nutrition-and-you.com/banana-fruit.html

Botanically, the fruit belongs to the family of Musaceae. Commercially, it is one of the widely cultivated crops in the tropical and subtropical zones. Scientific name: Musa acuminata colla.

Health benefits of banana fruit

  • Banana fruit is one of the high calorie tropical fruits. 100 g of fruit provides 90 calories. Besides, it contains good amounts of health benefiting anti-oxidants, minerals, and vitamins.

  • Banana pulp is composed of soft, easily digestible flesh with simple sugars like fructose and sucrose that when eaten replenishes energy and revitalizes the body instantly; thus, for these qualities, bananas are being used by athletes to get instant energy and as supplement food in the treatment plan for underweight children.

  • The fruit holds a good amount of soluble dietary fiber (7% of DRA per 100 g) that helps normal bowel movements; thereby reducing constipation problems.

  • It contains health promoting flavonoid poly-phenolic antioxidants such as lutein, zea-xanthin, ß and α-carotenes in small amounts. These compounds help act as protective scavengers against oxygen-derived free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) that play a role in aging and various disease processes.

  • It is also a very good source of vitamin-B6 (pyridoxine), provides about 28% of daily-recommended allowance. Pyridoxine is an important B-complex vitamin that has a beneficial role for the treatment of neuritis, and anemia. Further, it helps decrease homocystine (one of the causative factors in coronary artery disease (CHD) and stroke episodes) levels within the body.

  • The fruit is an also a moderate source of vitamin-C (about 8.7 mg per 100g). Consumption of foods rich in vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful oxygen-free radicals.

  • Fresh bananas provide adequate levels of minerals like copper, magnesium, and manganese. Magnesium is essential for bone strengthening and has a cardiac-protective role as well.  Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase. Copper is required in the production of red blood cells.

  • Fresh banana is a very rich source of potassium. 100 g fruit provides 358 mg potassium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps control heart rate and blood pressure, countering bad effects of sodium.

What i like about findings like this is the connection we have to everything around us. If we are 65% similar to a banana think about all the other things we are even closer to. The interconnectedness to each and every one of us is huge...and undeniable. Our actions and reactions are so important to the well being of a society, an acquaintance, a friendship, and most directly, a relationship.

Mindfulness of course is the key to our actions and reactions......when we are present, in the moment and being mindful of the things we do, even if its not all the time, the influence we have is huge. This isn't rocket science or new info. We all know the effects we have when we are stressed and distracted. Things just seems to not go right, there is no flow, our interactions are less fulfilling etc etc.....

So if your life is over busy or your not living the life you want, its almost impossible to be present and mindful......

Nothing is 100% and we are all human.....life is not smooth or easy all the time. And nor should it be. We grow and evolve with conflict and road blocks.......but if we are present and mindful of our actions then the road blocks become less stressful and can actually turn a corner and be fun and fulfilling.........our actions then effect others more positively and we all live healthier and happier lives.

If your not living the life you want then ask your self why......sometimes we coast and get caught up in things and end up in situations that are not our choosing....but that doesn't mean we can't work towards what we do want or figuring out how to change whats wrong. And FYI: we stop making unconscious life choices that we dont want if we are living the life we want and are present and mindful.

The thing is......making positive life changes isnt easy. Its way easier to choose things that have immediate gratification but no lasting effects. Fast food is a prime example of this. Try ordering Pizza one night. Time it from the moment you decide to order out. Include in the time how long it takes to pick out what pizza, the call, the waiting etc. Then try cooking a quick stir fry. If you dont like cutting veggies you can buy pre cut bags. All you have to do is open the bag, throw the veggies in a pan add some oil, cut up a chicken breast, add soy sauce and done. Half hour tops. You can even buy pre cut frozen veggies. Frozen chicken breasts take 10 min to thaw in the microwave. This takes a little planning but really, when you go shopping, add this arsenal to your freezer for lazy tired nights. Its way healthier than pizza or fast food. No question....not even a discussion.

Mindfulness and living the life you want takes commitment and work. But its not always hard work and it can start with one moment. One change.......If every person changed one thing in their life that was bothering them, once a year, the positive effect on our world would be unmeasurable. That's something worth putting the effort into!
