With all the strife in the world i keep wondering and am fascinated with religions, the belief in reincarnation, profits, holy men or woman, places of prayer, all that stuff. What is so compelling to people outside of themselves? What is it that makes people want to believe in something or someone more than them selves......and blindly follow a path that is not their own.
Perhaps its a way to get to themselves. But what if we bypassed all the religions and spiritual beliefs and just went straight to the point. What if we just decided that we could live by a higher standard and that we alone had what it takes to change ourselves and our world. What if we started making the right decisions, make peace with our neighbour, put ourselves in someone else shoes, do unto others....can it be so hard to do these things.......
It must be difficult if its not happening......but i cant help wonder why? Of course i believe in the power of presence. Actually i think its the meaning of life. So there you have it, if you, like many other people are wondering about the meaning of life I’ve just spelled it out for you. PRESENCE.
When one is more present we make better decisions. Pausing is presence as well. Pause, breath, and presence comes....then better decisions are made, we are less angry about whatever it is that is happening, and we can empathize more.
I think religions and belief systems are actually good and have a purpose in life. But i also thinks its time to look beyond these systems and hold them to a higher standard. We are the makers of our world regardless of how we got here. Isn't it time to say “i want more...i want things to be better!“ and then start living our lives toward that standard. Wars are raging and bad things need to be dealt with, there is no dispute about that. But as individuals we can change our surroundings. We can hold ourselves to a higher standard. We can add more presence to our world and pause, remembering why we are hear and what we can accomplish if we all just treated each other with the same respect we wanted. Sometimes its just that simple. An ocean is not a large intimidating body of water, it is an accumulation of many many drops all contributing to its greatness.
