I'm working on some new portraits that I'm quite excited about. I have a male model I worked with last year, that was amazing and I have a photo shoot with a female model next week that excites me just as much.
I'm not sure what it is in portraits thats got me so fixated right now. I think it's the eyes......it feels like the ability to see more.....a glimpse into another world. Or the soul world, if that even makes sense.....
When I begin a new portrait I really study that person's face. I'm not always sure what I'm looking for but I really try to dig deep and feel whats going on behind the eyes.....what makes that person tick?, what drives her to be who she is? I don't care about what she does for a living, or how pretty she is...it's more of "what is your soul trying to express in this lifetime"!
What a thing to capture, every person is different but that is my goal!! Doesn't seem to matter if I know the person or just met them, when I study their eyes all the words in my mind go away and I start to feel something much deeper. A deep, deep presence that goes beyond the paint or canvas.
I think that's why I'm in love with portraits right now. I get to tap into another world that somehow seems so elusive and vague most of the time. But once I get a few moments into it, a glimpse into their spirit is what drives us all......
I'm more and more grateful every day for the opportunities I have as an artist, the connections I get to have/make with everyone and the ones I have an opportunity to paint.
Cheers to all the faces I've painted thus far.
